About Elizabeth
I started Hobby Holiday because I know what it feels like to start over.
As an Army spouse of 15 years, I’ve learned that moving is part of life, but that doesn’t make it easy. Every new place means new routines, new faces, and figuring out how to build community all over again. And if you’ve ever been there, you know that making adult friendships isn’t always simple.
For me, it started with mahjong. It wasn’t just a game. It was a way in: a seat at the table, a reason to gather, a way to turn strangers into friends. And later, needlepoint, which I taught myself and haven’t put down since.
I’ve always been the one who brings people together. The planner, the host, the natural includer who makes sure no one feels left out. Because I truly believe this: there is always room at my table.
Hobby Holiday was created from that place. You don’t have to already know someone, or already be “good” at something. I certainly wasn’t when I picked up my first needle. You just have to show up.
Now a Chicago girl living in the DC area and mom to five, I’m still doing what I’ve always done: saving a seat for you.
Because the best part isn’t the hobby. It’s the people you meet along the way.
